Is the “myth” about Apple Cider Vinegar and fat loss true?

Here is a summary of what Doctor Eric Berg, who is an expert on this subject matter, had to say about it! Just read on about this “magical” substance, and you may find that it’s all you’ve needed all along!

Acetic Acid

First off, one myth about apple cider vinegar that should be discarded is that it contains lots of nutrients. It does not contain vitamins or minerals in any reasonable quantity.

Apple cider vinegar, however, does contain acetic acid, which is the actual secret behind all its health benefits. Acetic acid is very effective in the body because, contrary to what we’ve often been told, most of our bodies are actually way too alkaline.

The fact is that different parts and substances of our bodies have varying pH values. The true indicator of the body’s pH should be the blood, but this is very difficult to test because once blood gets outside the body, it’s oxidized, which immediately alters the pH. Due to this challenge, the next best way to note the body’s pH is to go by symptoms. You can tell the state of your body by looking up the symptoms of acidosis (over-acidity) and alkalosis (over-alkalinity), and comparing them with your body’s current conditions.

pH plays a very important role in the transport of minerals, stimulation of enzymes, and metabolism. Although it’s true that the blood should be somewhat alkaline, it shouldn’t get too alkaline, and this is where acetic acid comes in.

Acetic acid, which has a very acidic pH of 2.5 (just like stomach acid), can be taken to ease heartburn and stomach conditions. This is because acid reflux, GERD, indigestion and heartburn alloccur due to over-alkalinity of the stomach which prevents the valve into the stomach from closing. Apple cider vinegar is a great solution to these problems. Taking in some of it will get the valve to close and thus stop regurgitation.

By making the stomach more acidic and aiding the absorption of minerals, apple cider vinegar helps speed up digestion and metabolism, and these in turn result in fat loss. As you age, specifically from 50-70, your stomach gets more and more alkaline, and so you need to take in more acid to aid the digestion of protein and absorption of minerals.

The reason why vitamin C works so well for colds and viral infections is because of the ACID. Acetic acid (in apple cider vinegar) will do an even better job of helping the immune system during colds, fevers or viral infections, due to the impurity of the substance we take as “vitamin C, “

Other Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

If the pH of the blood is too alkaline, the absorption of minerals, especially calcium, is impeded. When calcium isn’t properly absorbed, it begins to build up in the soft tissues throughout the body – a condition called soft-tissue calcification – while there is an inadequate amount left for the body’s actual needs. This is one major reason why people get stiffer and suffer diseases from calcium collecting in the joints (arthritis), on the eyes (cataracts), on the nerves (neuritis), in the kidneys (kidney stones), in the gall bladder (gall stones), and on the teeth (tartar), as they age. Apple cider vinegar is also the best solution for eye-twitching, cramping in the calves, nerve pain which are all symptoms of calcium deficiency.

Over-alkalinity also leads to potassium deficiency. Apple cider vinegar helps, not by giving you more potassium, but by acidifying your body so that it can absorb more potassium. High blood pressure, constipation, weakness, fatigue and irregular heartbeats are all symptoms of potassium-deficiency.

Apple cider does not really “cure” all of these conditions per se. It only fixes the pH problem, which in turn fixes everything else.

Stress makes the body secrete cortisol which alkalizes the body. Cortisol causes our bodies to lose acidity through our urine and thus become alkaline. And so, most of us face this problem of over-alkalinity. It’s pretty sad that some of us still ignorantly go out of our way to over-alkalize our water and food.

Apple Cider Vinegar and the Keto diet

People that consume a lot of protein, especially those on the ketodiet, produce guanidine, a very alkaline substance, as a waste product after the metabolism of the protein consumed. This can lead to all the aforementioned symptoms of alkalosis in the body. Apple cider vinegar is a great help for such people.

Basically, apple cider vinegar is the antidote to the high protein residue in the liver and body. It helps in the absorption of minerals, mobilization of calcium, and deals with the metabolic waste product of protein.

Apple Cider Vinegar Drink for Weight Loss

Drink two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before every meal for the stimulation of the thyroid and the acidification of the stomach. You may add a teaspoon each of cranberry and/or lemon juice. You could also shred in some ginger or add some ginger extract.

If you can’t stand the sour taste, chances are you don’t really need it. If your body really needs the acid, you will crave it, and it will make you feel better.

I have personally experienced the wonders of apple cider vinegar in my own body, and I encourage you to give it a go, especially if you’ve adopted the keto diet. You should also embrace it if you’re seeking fat loss.
